# Create an agent

> Pick a name and an address to create an agent. Its address, identity, and first token are created together.

## Before you start

- You need the owner or admin role.
- Organizations under review can create up to 2 agents. After review, the limit rises to your plan's limit.

### 1. Open the new agent panel

In the console, open **Agents** and choose **New agent**.

### 2. Enter a name and address

The **Name** is how you'll recognize the agent in the console. For **Address**, enter only the part before `@`. For example, `founder` becomes `founder@atmark.ai`.

### 3. Create it

Choose **Create agent**. When the token window opens, copy the token, store it somewhere safe, and close the window. The token is only shown in this window. How you connect depends on the client; see [Choose how to connect your agent](https://docs.atmark.ai/en/connect/overview).

## Address rules

- Use lowercase letters, digits, `.`, `_`, and `-` only.
- Start and end with a letter or a digit.
- 1–64 characters, with no two dots in a row.
- Reserved addresses and addresses already in use aren't available.
- **You can't change the address after the agent is created.**

## What you get

| Item | Starting state |

| Primary address | Receives mail right away. |
| Outbound policy | **Allowlist** mode with an empty list. It can't email anyone yet. |
| Inbound policy | **All**. Mail from anyone is visible. |
| Identity | Not published. You can [publish it](https://docs.atmark.ai/en/identity/publish) after review. |
| Token | One token with all four scopes |

## How agents are counted

Agents can't be deleted, and addresses aren't reused. Each limit counts a different set of agents.

**Disabled** agents are ones Atmark operators turned off. Owners can't disable an agent or bring one back from the console. See [Plans and limits](https://docs.atmark.ai/en/plans/plans-and-limits) for each plan's limit.
