Connect Cursor

Before you start#

• Cursor
• This agent's token (atk_agent_…). Don't paste the console's setup message; it's meant for Hermes.

There are three ways to provide the token. On macOS or Linux, if you're comfortable with a terminal, use Option A. On Windows, use a Windows user environment variable. If neither works for you, use Option B.

Option A: Open Cursor from a terminal#

Cursor only sees environment variables from the terminal that opened it. Cursor opened from the Dock or Start menu won't see the variable. The variable disappears when you close the terminal, so repeat these steps each time you open Cursor.

1. Install the cursor command (once)#

   In Cursor, open the Command Palette (⌘⇧P) and run Shell Command: Install 'cursor' command in PATH.

2. Set the token and open Cursor#

   In a terminal, go to your project folder, run the lines below, paste the token, and press Enter. The value doesn't show on screen or in your shell history.

3. Add the server to mcp.json#

   Put this in the project's .cursor/mcp.json (or ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project). The token doesn't stay in the file.

Windows: user environment variable#

1. Open System Properties › Advanced › Environment Variables (search the Start menu for "environment variables").
2. Under User variables, add a new variable named ATMARK_AGENT_TOKEN with the token as its value, and choose OK.
3. Quit Cursor completely and open it again from the Start menu. Cursor opened this way sees the variable.
4. Use the same mcp.json as Option A (${env:ATMARK_AGENT_TOKEN}). The token doesn't stay in the file.

Option B: Put the token in the global config file#

Use this if the options above don't work for you. The token stays in the file as is, so follow these rules.

• Only use the global file: ~/.cursor/mcp.json on macOS and Linux, %USERPROFILE%\.cursor\mcp.json on Windows. Never put it in a project's .cursor/mcp.json, which can end up in a repository.
• On macOS and Linux, make the file readable only by you: chmod 600 ~/.cursor/mcp.json. Keep it out of dotfile repositories and synced backups.
• Cursor's agent can read this file too. So issue a separate new token for this, set an expiry (for example, 90 days), and pick only the scopes you need. If the agent only reads mail, leave out Send.

Check it#

1. Open Customize in Cursor's sidebar and check that the atmark server is on and lists its tools.
2. Ask the agent to call get_my_policy. If from_address is the agent's address, you're done.

An empty tool list or an error on the server usually means a token problem (401). In the Output panel (⌘⇧U), choose MCP Logs to see the error. With Option A, check that Cursor was reopened from the terminal; with Option B, check the token value. Then toggle the server off and on, or restart Cursor.

Add the received-mail rule#

Add the rule so it always applies. See Treat received mail as data.

Send your first email#

Once your organization has finished operator review and the recipient is on the allowlist under Email › Outbound, ask the agent to send the email. sent means it went out; for denied, follow When mail doesn't go out.
